Our Story …

We are thrilled to be taking part in Shitbox Rally Autumn 2024! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Adelaide to Perth.

For us that first means getting from Karratha in the North West of WA across to Adelaide first!

We're dedicating this trip and our fundraising to our beautiful friend Sue McAuliffe who was taken way to young by cancer. We love you Sue.

Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 14th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the Autumn 2024 rally target set at $2,000,000 plus.

These funds go to Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated.

Please make sure to follow our progress either via this platform or for regular updates please find us on socials & youtube via: @dirtyredshitboxrally

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

On Saturday 20th May we took a drive from Karratha down to Bullara Station and drove home with our Shitbox, a Ford BA.

It was a quick round trip of little under 900km in the day but we had a great run and the drive home went well with the BA doing a great job!

You can see from the pics our region is full of red dirt and the reason behind our team name of 'Dirty Red' after the Red Dirt country we call home.

Our BA wasn't owned by the station but by a lovely couple that are there working for the season.

We cannot wait to start decorating the car with a little bit of paint and covering it in our supporter stickers!

Now to give our BA a name.

Maybe 'Bully' Bully the BA for the station of which we collected it from.

Maybe 'Bazza' Bazza the BA for no reason apart from it's a B name!

hmmmmm

We’ve followed this Rally for a few years now, with interest at what they achieve with the cars travelling the routes they do, but also with amazement at the amount of money raised for Cancer Council. We’ve always thought ‘how great would that be to do’ but never thought we could actually do it!

This year, when we spotted applications were open for the Autumn 2024 rally we decided to be brave, to jump out of our comfort zone and apply, with our reason on the application form being our beautiful friend Sue.

Sue lost her battle with cancer 4 days after her son Sam's 10th birthday in March 2021, not even 9 months after learning of the disease. Cancer took her from us way to soon and takes too many of our loved ones.

We dedicate our trip to all that have lost their lives to cancer, to your friends, family, work mates & loved ones as well as those battling the disease in their lives now.

We dedicate our trip to Sue.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
