Our Story …

David and David are the Davehearts.

They share a lot in common.

They are both called Dave.

They both married their wives on same afternoon - Friday April 10 2015.

They both had a daughter present at their weddings.

They both had a second child after the weddings.

They both took their families of four on a holiday to New York in 2018.

They both moved to the Central Coast with their families and enrolled their children at the same school.

They both dressed as Vampires when their paths collided at a Terrigal Halloween party.

WHEN THEY BOTH SAW THE OPPORTUNITY TO DRIVE A CAR WORTH LESS THAN $1500 ACROSS A CONTINENT……..WELL THEY BOTH SAID YES.

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

Planning is underway for Dave and Dave - also known as the Dave Hearts to begin their epic quest in Autumn 2024.

Just reaching the start line will be an achievement for these two who are aiming to cross three time zones, six states/territories and a continent in the two week adventure.

They will be setting off from the iconic Terrigal beach on the NSW Central Coast.

They will initially be heading south before crossing their first state lines in to the Australian Capital Territory for a quick pit stop.

They will return to the highway, heading back through New South Wales to visit Melbourne.

Next stop on the journey is the Great Ocean Road, to see the world famous 12 Apostles and the views of Bass Straight towards Tasmania before continuing west to South Australia.

They will reach Adelaide with more than 2000 kilometres on the odometer and that is only to start the rally.

After Adelaide, they will be joining hundreds of other champions in heading north towards Lake Eyre and the iconic towns of Roxby Downs and Oodnadatta in the South Australian Outback.

The Shitbox rally will take them through some of the worst outback roads in Australia towards Yulara in the Northern Territory to see Uluru (Ayres Rock).

After Yulura they will be heading west into Western Australia for another two thousand kilometres jaunt towards Warburton, Laverton and Southern Cross.

The destination for the two intrepid travellers will be the finish line of the Shitbox Rally in Perth. The itinerary of this adventure broke google maps with the best estimate being almost 6 000 kilometres.

WHAT IS A SHITBOX RALLY CAR?

Unfortunately, there will be no lap of luxury for these boys on their epic adventure.

They will instead be travelling in a vehicle thoroughly unsuitable for the long highways, heat of the deserts and the river crossings of central Australia.

The rules for the rally are very clear - the car must be a Shitbox with a street value of no more than $1500. All wheel drive stability or four wheel drive ability is banned from the event.

If the car reaches Perth it will be joining the hundreds of other vehicles headed to the auctions. The proceeds from the sale plsu all funds raised by the Davehearts will be directly donated to the Cancer Council.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
