A 1988 Volvo 240 GLEThe Volvo influence is from Dave (old man), and the wagon influence from Russ (weirdo)A budget of $1500 for a licensed car really doesn't get you much these days, and with both of us being car enthusiasts we were hanging out to get our hands on something mildly interesting, rather than a Commodore or Falcon with 400,000km which seemed to be all that was coming up on our searches.Now let us qualify the comment on us both claiming to be 'car enthusiasts'. This means that we both have a general interest in automotive things. At no point will we claim that we have any taste at all, but we feel that we have both owned our fair share of interesting cars so far in our lifetimes. Furthermore, we have both previously owned D40 Navara's, which is something of a rite of passage in to 4WDs... IYKYK.Enter the Volvo wagon. Dave has a soft spot for Volvo's, having grown up with them in the family, and now having a classic Volvo of his own, so this gem won him over pretty easily. Russ is always up for buying anything a bit odd, and loves a wagon so the Volvo ticked the boxes.She is far from perfect, but a sensational blank canvas that we hope will come alive and represent the spirit of the Shitbox Rally beautifully.
